This is not a comment on any of the issues in your post, just a comment on my own nomination.
I nominated under "Middle Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien" but I wanted to say that if nobody else ends up nominating in that category (though I'm not sure how likely that is, as last year we had 86 Middle Earth noms), I would be okay with it being folded under "The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien". Also, is "The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien" being considered as including all the material in the appendices?
