Nominations Queries Post 3

Tag set | REVISED countdown to close of noms

With a little under a day to go until nominations close, I have (finally!) managed to wrestle the nominations down to just those requiring further attention. That means that if your tags have not been approved yet, and don't appear listed below, then please do ask as it may mean something untoward has occurred. (Exception: if you nominated extremely recently, please wait a little while. I will edit this post if I come across further issues as I work through new tags.)

Since this will be the last queries post, in most cases I will specify what I intend to do if I don't hear anything to the contrary; I will also keep this post updated until nominations close as the final tags come in. (I would guess that if necessary updates will happen at very approximately 0800 UTC, 1300 UTC and 1630 UTC. If you are nominating close to the wire and think your tags may be confusing, please be proactive in providing evidence.)

ETA: new queries since original posting

  • Heartstrikers & DFZ - Rachel Aaron - The Final Future (Heartstrikers & DFZ) I'm 99% sure this is a worldbuilding tag that's missing its "WB: " so will add that at close at noms if I don't hear back, but just in case: if that is the name of a character, please let me know.
  • Star Trek - the tags below have been approved under the umbrella fandom; however, the original nominator for that fandom has requested to have their tags folded into "Star Trek: The Original Series" - is it OK to move these tags at the same time?

    • WB: Kahs-wan (Star Trek)
    • WB: Koon-ut-kal-if-fee (Star Trek)
    • WB: Mind Melds (Star Trek)
    • WB: Pon Farr (Star Trek)
    • WB: Telepathy and the Legal System (Star Trek)

[original post resumes below]

Actions taken after last post

At the request of the original nominator, Men in Black (Movies) has moved to Men in Black (Original Trilogy); if anyone out there did want a more expansive MiB fandom in the tag set, please nominate it.

Original Works

There are two nomination slates' worth of tags still in the main Original Work fandom - when noms close, I will redistribute these to separate subfandoms according to my best guesses (including possibly creating some new subfandoms like "Original Work - Superheroes") unless the nominators beat me to it ...

After considerable research and thought, I have now definitely come to the conclusion that Original Work - Low Fantasy is not guaranteed to be universally understood as meaning the same thing by everyone; in particular, I am worried that people who did not participate in the nominations process may later sign up and request/offer it with quite a different idea in mind. My interpretation of the earlier discussions is that the current nominators intend it to mean "real world setting with some fantastic elements" - I will probably rename it to this (very clunky) tag with some sort of hideous abbreviated disambiguations, unless a) someone comes up with a better suggestion for an unambiguous name, or b) the nominators adjust it themselves to an unambiguous tag of their choosing. (Doesn't necessarily have to be the same tag for each nominator!) Following my further investigations, I'm also not 100% convinced that Original Work - Magical Realism, which I encouraged one nominator to go for if they felt it was appropriate, has a universally-understood meaning either, especially when its definition within literary fiction is considered. So I think that may need to be changed as well, sorry.

Fandoms at risk of being rejected when nominations close

NB you do not have to be the original nominator to rescue these fandoms! If you have spare slots you can add the tags required. (ETA: many thanks to those who are doing this ...)

Fandoms without the two "default" character tags ("Any or No Characters" and "Original Character(s)"):

  • Deadly Class (TV)
  • Frontier Wolf - Rosemary Sutcliff
  • IT (Movies - Muschetti) [see also "specific queries" below]
  • Mass Effect: Andromeda
  • Original Work - Fantasy/Sci-Fi [still waiting to be approved as I need to work out how to make the disambiguations consistent]
  • Silicon Valley (TV) [see also "specific queries" below]
  • Star Trek: Voyager
  • Star Wars Sequel Trilogy
  • Veep (TV) [see also "specific queries" below]

And one fandom has character tags but no worldbuilding tags:

  • The Sixth World - Rebecca Roanhorse

If the intention here is to request any and all worldbuilding, I'm afraid we do need at least one tag to match on; this could be very broadly defined (though not quite as broad as "any worldbuilding"!).

Specific queries (alphabetical by fandom)

  • The Godwhale (TJ Bass) - the tags contain both Nebishes and WB: Nebbish culture and society - which spelling is correct? Also, is "Nebishes" a group nom that would be better as "Original Neb[b?]ish Character(s)"? Finally, since this seems to be a book when I approve this I will be changing the fandom name to "The Godwhale - T. J. Bass" in line with AO3 style for Books & Literature fandoms. [this fandom is now waiting to bubble up to the top of the Already Approved list, I will get to approving the tags under it when it appears]
  • 镇魂 | Guardian (TV) - I've approved all of the following four tags but looking at them, I suspect that they're actually effectively duplicates:

    • Shen Wei (镇魂 | Guardian (TV))
    • Shěn Wēi (镇魂 | Guardian (TV))
    • Yè Zūn (镇魂 | Guardian (TV))
    • Ye Zun (镇魂 | Guardian (TV))

(each tag listed above was nominated twice). Please can someone clarify? (Three other characters are nommed as Da Qing, Li Qian and Zhao Yunlan, so advice on consistency also appreciated.)
[resolved, will be dealt with at clean up stage]
  • Haitaka no Psychedelica & Kokuchou no Psychedelica (Visual Novels) - I changed the two slightly nonstandard tags under this to "Any or No" and "Original" with the (Haitaka no Psychedelia) dismabiguation that other nominated tags had; however, I do wonder if the intent of the original nomination was to create two subfandoms within a larger umbrella. If this is desired, please let me know and we can see about splitting it into two different fandoms in the tag set, which would be the better way to handle that.
  • Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling - I intend to move the tags nominated under this tag to "Harry Potter - Books 1-7" unless the nominator instructs me otherwise, or moves them themselves.
  • The Hobbit - J. R. R. Tolkien - I have approved the tags under this, except for the two group nominations highlighted in the previous post, which have now been rejected.
  • Infinity Train (Cartoon) - I have approved the tags for this, except "Any Reflection(s)" which was highlighted in the previous post and has now been rejected
  • IT (Movies - Muschetti) - "The Losers Club" seems to be a group tag; I will approve the rest without this, assuming that the missing tags appear (see list above)
  • Power Rangers and Power Rangers (TV) - just checking my understanding of scope here. I am assuming that "Power Rangers" is everything that has ever been put out under the Power Rangers imprimatur, while "Power Rangers (TV)" is (slightly more) restricted to be the twenty-something series there have been by now. If this is not the intent, please let me know.
  • Silicon Valley (TV) and Veep (TV) - in addition to the issues of missing character tags, at least some of the nominated worldbuilding tags for these look like AU "what if?" prompts, which are not within the scope of this exchange. Please could the nominator clarify? If there are no valid worldbuilding tags at close of noms, these fandoms will be rejected. (Without further input, I freely admit that I will be guessing based off wiki-diving as I don't know either of these fandoms.)
  • A Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin - I've approved all tags except WB: Women Who Don't Marry By Choice (ASOIAF), which I'm slightly worried could be interpreted in two diametrically opposed ways - is the intention "Women who choose not to marry" or "Women who have no choice about getting married"?

Thanks very much for your patience during the nominations process, and to everyone who has responded either by providing further information or adjusting their nominations.

That was what I was hoping for, honestly--I just threw it in in case it couldn't be moved for some reason. I liked the original tag with the matching disambiguation better.
