Pinch hits as of 15th March
Here are the current pinch hits (to avoid any potential confusion: yes, pinch hit #16 is the same as initial pinch hit #9). The deadline for all of these will be 0755 UTC on Monday 21st March but this is open to negotiation.
To claim, please comment here (screened), clearly indicating your AO3 username and which pinch hit you are interested in picking up (by giving the number and/or recipient). Comments will not be replied to directly; if you see a pinch hit marked as claimed and it doesn't appear for you as an AO3 assignment, then you should assume it went to someone else. Thank you!

Saiyuki
WB: Final tests for Sanzohood (Saiyuki), WB: Ancient Fantasy China (Saiyuki), WB: Magic powers (Saiyuki), Any or No Characters (Saiyuki), Genjo Sanzo (Saiyuki), Houmei (Saiyuki), Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta
In Koumyou's youth he was part of a class of eleven candidates for becoming Sanzo who were driven, hard-working and dedicated – and then there was him. His pupil Kouryuu straight out didn't want to be a sanzo at all and simply had it verbally thrust upon him.
What is it that makes a Sanzo-priest? Houmei had two years of intensive training to be worthy of the position, yet after holding the title for over twenty years he thinks there are no actual qualifications needed. In his final test for the disciples he considers worthy to follow him, Goudai says that every Sanzo steps over the body of his predecessor – there are three apparently perfectly healthy Sanzo-priests seen in Ibun. What has happened to them? Something dealing with the information we've been given would be fantastic!
DNWs:
graphic non-consensual sex;
characters as explicitly sexually active below the mid-teens;
explicit harm to children/child-like characters or animals (For Saiyuki, mentions of what other monks assume about Koumyou and Kouryuu is fine, but please have it be baseless. If Ukoku and the child!Kami-sama appear similarly please keep anything vague, even if not baseless);
Koumyou/Ukoku - I prefer them as friends or frenemies, as colleagues, with maybe Ukoku wanting something he'll never have, at most;
identity headcanons;
a/b/o;
modern day events such as Covid, modern day political events such as Brexit, etc;
terminal illnesses or cancer;
mundane-setting or modern day AUs or mundane/modern day settings for original works.

Any of the Schwarz characters in Rosenkreuz. What is Rosenkreuz? Possibly a story on Schwarz's training, the limitations the trainers consider that there are on psychic powersor their return there for some reason - to take it down, perhaps, as they canonically have very bad memories of the place.
DNWs:
graphic non-consensual sex;
characters as explicitly sexually active below the mid-teens;
explicit harm to children/child-like characters or animals ;
identity headcanons;
a/b/o;

I'd love something on 15th century takes on forensic science (or police equipment) - what exactly can Wang Zhi invent when he puts his mind to it? Or something about a day of hauling in petty criminals/bank robbers. And given how the show ends, maybe a zombie apocalypse and how the characters/the capital deal with it?

The Philosopher’s Series - Tom Miller
WB: Traditions of the United States Sigilry Corps (Philosopher’s), WB: Sigilry handbooks and textbooks (Philosopher’s), WB: Sigilry and technology after WWII (Philosopher’s), WB: General’s Cup Endurance Flight (Philosopher’s), WB: Brock-Sudeste Aerospace (Philosopher’s), Any or No Characters (Philosopher’s), Original Character(s) (Philosopher’s), Original Empirical Philosophy Scholar(s) (Philosopher’s), Any Cartogramancer(s) (Philosopher's), Sarah Stewart (Philosopher’s), Millen (Philosopher’s), Edith Rubinski (Philosopher’s), Fanart, Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta
A WWI-era world in which women do the rational-style magic because men aren't very good at it! The Philosophers books are chock-full of fascinating worldbuilding, whether you're interested in how the magic works, how institutions around it work, how a society that has it works. It's also full of characters who are developed enough that you can see what interesting people they are but who only get so much time in the books. I'd love to have more about those characters and/or those ways things work, or see it, in diagrams or schematics or advertisements or illustrations.
Some things I'm especially interested in are the academia of sigilry and the R&D to develop new sigils or mature and make use of existing ones (at Radcliffe or one of the other mentioned institutions, in private enterprise, maybe in/around the Sigilry Corps or whatever follows it?); traditions that arise around a women-centered discipline (I'm soft for the sisterhood); what sigilry could look like in the future of the novels (how do hovering and transit interact with technologies like jet planes?). The novels center on flying, and I'm as equally interested in more of that as in one of the other sigils, whichever one takes your fancy!
I'd be equally happy with no characters, original characters or existing categories of characters, or some of those great women who have stories of their own. I've picked out a few favorites here: Edith Rubinski and the way she adapts hovering after she's shot down, Millen and her life in and after the Sigilry Corps, Sarah Stewart and how she finds a place for herself that suits her personality and strengths. For specific groups, I've listed Original Empirical Philosophy Scholars--a focus on someone's research or teaching would be really fun--and Cartogramancers--I asked for "Any" but as I write my prompts I could see potential for original ones as well; I'm interested in how the very different relationship cartogramancers have with materials and magic sheds light on how it works for everyone else who practices it (also, what if there was a non-male cartogramancer?)
I'd prefer a light touch with the darker aspects of the world; they're an important part of it, but the tone in the books when it addresses them is on the far end of what I'd like for this.

I just love these little blue guys, especially en masse. They're so much fun! They're so joyful and collective and strong and not scared of anything. I love the mistakes humans make about them and the mistakes they make about humans, and the maybe muddled lore they have about themselves.
Tell me more about their lore and prescriptions in re: lawyers, the law, contracts, and having things written down about them. Tell me about daily life inside the clan, whether it's description/illustration of how they live communally or shenanigans carrying off livestock. Write me a study of Feegle names and how they're come by. Or tell me about/show me the places and universes they've gone to using the Crawstep! These are just some of the worldbuilding-ish things I could think of about them, but don't feel like you have to limit to just what I've listed; the Nac Mac Feegle are one of my favorite things in the Discworld.

Perdido Street Station - China Mieville
WB: Weaver Aesthetics (Perdido Street Station), WB: Garuda Philosophy (Perdido Street Station), Any or No Characters (Perdido Street Station), Original Character(s) (Perdido Street Station), The Weaver (Perdido Street Station), Fanart, Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta
This book had so many fascinating species and cultures and subcultures, and the Weavers and the Garuda are two of my favorites. It seems like the physical nature and geographical accidents of many of the groups has a strong influence on their cultures, which makes sense and are especially vivid in a world with all these inventive species.
I'd be interested to read more about how the Garuda live out in the desert, and especially about how they think and their worldview. I'm interested in the ways that they define things within their law that are different from how we do it, and from what principles and understanding of the nature of things those arise. I love the image of the nomadic library, and all the knowledge they value and preserve and bring with them and access.
I loved deciphering the utterances of the Weaver who was in the novel, and just had a lot of fun with this species that transcends and intersects our dimensions, and so interact with us in ways that are perplexing and feel arbitrary. I love that they're poet-artists, aesthetes, and that's the most important thing to them, and the worldweb is their art, unfortunate or fortunate as that can be for everyone else, considering how powerful they are (but their nature could bring weaknesses and vulnerabilities too).
Any art of either species and/or their works, stories about individuals or groups of them, or studies within or about their disciplines would be fascinating!

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Relaunch Novels
WB: Trill Symbiont Pools (DS9 Relaunch), WB: Andorian Reproductive Biology (DS9 Relaunch), Original Character(s) (DS9 Relaunch), Any or No Characters (DS9 Relaunch), Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta
I'm especially thinking of the Worlds of Deep Space Nine stories about Andor and Trill and the novels building up to these. I've read through The Never-Ending Sacrifice, but I don't mind spoilers (I've read Enigma Tales as well). If you draw from TV canon, I would prefer that it minimizes references to anything after Voyager.
Andorian reproductive biology: I remember being fascinated by the emotional dynamics when I read these books, and I still think about how it works physically and those interpersonal relationships within the bond. I'd be interested in something that looks at either aspect or how one influences the other, especially within a healthy adult relationship.
Although I am interested in the xeno biology, I'm less interested in the crisis in the species story covered by the books, so maybe something set before or after this point would be a good opportunity for some worldbuilding on how it works when it's working well.
(I'll have to admit, I'd love for an "obligatory four-person ships" AU to become a trope--or maybe it already is one? and you want to introduce me to it--and if you want to do a crossover in which your OT4 do relaunch-novel Andorian romance/sex, I'd be down for it.)
Trill symbiont pools: Giant, extremely old Trill symbionts, deep underwater in the caves? I think this is a dreamy concept, and I'd love to read more about life in that ecosystem. What's it like to visit, as a joined (or unjoined host) Trill? What's it like to be one of the Guardians? What do unjoined symbionts do all day, and what are their conscious lives and communications like? How does that change as you get deeper and deeper into the depths of the pools? What's the actual ecology of the pools, if you're interested in that?
Again, I'm less interested in the crisis in the society story told by the books and more in the everyday life in this fascinatingly alien, inventive glimpse of one of the familiar species allowed by the text medium.

Fandom-specific DNW exception: pregnancy and related complications; parent-child relationships and childrearing as focus--I know these can be big elements of reproductive biology; for this request, as long as a story isn't primarily about either of these things, especially either of these things going badly, and a meta isn't about either of these things going wrong (and the less human-like, the better!), it's fine to include them as the concerns of characters and aspects of their lives.

Star Trek: The Next Generation
WB: Riva’s Chorus (TNG), Any or No Characters (TNG), Original Character(s) (TNG), Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta
I recently watched "Loud as a Whisper", and suddenly wanted to know a lot more about these three people who have served as a nobleman's voice their whole lives. I have so many questions, and I see so much potential for exploration of them as individual characters and as a group of people who work very closely together and must know one another and Riva extremely well, given their role as telepathic interpreters, which the episode almost didn't really hint at but allowed plenty of room for. They don't give names in the episode, just descriptive epithets, and those epithets are about what their roles are in relation to Riva more than anything else, but also seem to represent their personalities.
Do they have names? Were they chosen because they demonstrated those personalities from very early on? Were their natures created and/or cultivated in their families specifically for Riva's use? Are "Scholar/Artist, Passion/Warrior, and Harmony/Wisdom" traditional roles, or specific to Riva? Were they allowed to say yes or no to serving Riva? How do they feel about it, about him, and about each other?
They don't seem to have any problem with their lot, but I'm fascinated by the moments when we see glimpses of them as individuals, when they address other characters directly, when Riva doesn't need one or more of them. But I'm equally fascinated by how closely they'd have to be in tune with one another. I'm also taken with the idea that Riva is so used to their being functionally a part of him that he needs them beyond as interpreters, which I think the "dates with Deanna" scenes hint at, but I'd love a take that goes further to explore the tensions and ambiguities and alienness of this triangular pyramid relationship.
Just how close are their empathic/telepathic connections, to Riva and to one another? How close are their relationships? Do they get time off? Are there backup interpreters on the homeworld? What was their training like/what was it like to be brought up like this? How do they live--they share quarters to some extent with Riva, but how closely? How do other people in their society view them? What are they each like when they're not speaking for Riva?
If you want to go into Riva's deafness and how his society views that, given that it's hereditary to the ruling dynasty, that would be fitting too, as a part of the exploration of the Chorus' role and dynamics.

Specifically for this request, the characters in question do canonically die onscreen, and I'd prefer something that takes place before this happens.

I'd love something on 15th century takes on forensic science (or police equipment) - what exactly can Wang Zhi invent when he puts his mind to it?
