Nominations post - Round 4

Nominations are now open here. Full nominations information is available in this section of this round's rules post; this post is intended to summarise the most important points, particularly where there are differences from what is typical in most other exchanges.

You can nominate up to five fandoms, with seven character slots and five "worldbuilding" slots (using the AO3 relationship fields) for each.

Fandom names used should make it clear what the scope of the source material intended is. This may mean using AO3 non-canonicals. It is OK in this exchange for nominated fandoms to overlap in whole or in part (e.g. "Star Wars - Movies Only", "Star Wars - Legends", "Star Wars - New EU" would have some elements in common and others not). Crossovers are OK if and only if the crossover happened in canon; in this case, nominate under both fandoms, divided by a / (e.g. "How To Get Away With Murder/Scandal").

Please do:
  • disambiguate all tags with the name of the fandom (please ignore the instructions on the nomination page itself to choose AO3 canonicals - these only occasionally have the disambiguations; unfortunately, this is standard AO3 text that I can't override)
  • nominate the two "default" character tags used in the exchange -- "Original Character(s) (name of fandom)" and "Any or No Characters (name of fandom)" -- in each fandom you nominate
  • preface all worldbuilding tags with "WB: "
  • double check that your character tags are in character fields and your worldbuilding tags are in relationship fields (on the approval interface, I have no way to see which tags were nominated as which)
  • be patient while waiting for your tags to be approved*

Please don't:
  • nominate actual relationships (e.g. A/B, C&D) in the Relationship fields
  • nominate RPF, or worldbuilding tags for close-to-real-world canons that would similarly constitute solely RL research with no use of creativity to answer the questions
  • nominate AU ideas, unless the AU in question appears within the canon
  • nominate fandoms without at least one worldbuilding tag

This post doubles as an evidence post and a brainstorming post. Feel free to comment here to provide extra information you think may help me deal with your nominations, or to discuss with other fans how best to organise your shared fandoms.

I will post clarifications posts regularly during the tag set sorting period; please keep an eye on the comm to see if any of your tags appear with issues or queries.

*Please note that I will be changing how I approach the tag set behind the scenes (in particular, I am trying to build the spreadsheet as I go), which means that it is likely there will be a slightly longer wait for your tags to be approved compared to previous years.

Nominations will close at 1655 UTC on Wednesday 15th January (countdown).

Harry Potter Split?

I nominated some Harry Potter tags and was unsure which fandom to use. Is the fandom being split again this year? Should we use the same tags as last year, or just one catch-all fandom?

Sorry if you addressed this matter already this year, but I can’t seem to search the community other than hitting ctrl + F on every page (which I did try).

I'm voting for "split", myself, on the grounds that some people are strongly "just the first seven books + schoolbooks" and other people include various combinations of Cursed Child, Fantastic Beasts, Pottermore, JKR tweets…

I don’t have strong feelings either way, but would it be possible to split it so that Hogwarts Mystery can be included with something but not everything like JKR tweets and Pottermore? Or that could just be handled with character selection and DNWs?

For example, if we just have Harry Potter as one category, people can avoid the characters they don’t want and DNW Pottermore and JKR tweets etc. It doesn’t look like most people wanted Pottermore included last year anyway, so I’m not sure that would be a big issue. Or we could split it and have “Harry Potter Books,” “Harry Potter Visual Media” or “Harry Potter Canon” (which would include the movies and games but not Pottermore) and “Harry Potter - All Media Types” (which would include Pottermore and the like).

My very unmodly opinion is "Harry Potter - Hogwarts Mystery" as a distinct subcategory

I guess? Tbh I just want to be able to prompt for things that happen to characters like Tonks and Charlie and Snape both during the books and the years immediately before, without having to request two fandoms because I might bring in someone’s backstory for one or two prompts.

Great, thank you! I will think about it and edit my noms in the next few hours if that’s okay!

I can’t think of a better fandom name than what I have, so I’m going to leave them as they are. Thank you for your help and for modding this exchange!
