The tag set is here and taking nominations.

Please note that due to the limitations of AO3, we will be using the "Relationships" field to handle worldbuilding elements on a fandom-by-fandom basis.

Please do:

• Read the Nominations section of the information post for details of how things will work.
  
• Disambiguate all nominated tags by adding "(Name of Fandom)" - this will help hugely in approving tags, avoiding migration issues, etc.
  
• Use two of the character slots to nominate "Original Character(s) (Name of Fandom)" and "No Characters (Name of Fandom)" each time you nominate a new fandom.
  
• Nominate worldbuilding elements as Relationships tags in the format "Worldbuilding: A worldbuilding element (Name of Fandom)"
  
• Keep an eye out for posts here on the dreamwidth community asking for clarifications
  

Please don't:

• Select AO3 canonicals from the drop down list unless they exactly match what you want (unlikely for anything except fandoms). ETA: For this exchange, please ignore the generic instruction on the AO3 nominating form to choose the canonical if it exists.
  
• Nominate actual relationships (& or /) in the Relationships field
  
• Worry about the tag set being messy; I will be producing a cleaned up version

Hello, I just wanted to confirm something, when you say "Use two of the character slots to nominate "Original Character(s) (Name of Fandom)" and "No Characters (Name of Fandom)" each time you nominate a new fandom." it means that even if I put characters, I'll likely only match in this tags "Original Character(s) (Name of Fandom)" and "No Characters (Name of Fandom)", right?

I just want to confirm, so I plan better the nominating and my sign up.

You don't have to request or offer those tags at all. If you want to receive/create fanworks with a worldbuilding focus which also feature canon characters, then you will absolutely be able to sign up accordingly.

However, because it's possible some people will want to request/offer things without canon characters (especially in the "Meta" category), I want to be able to accommodate that. So even if you're not planning to use those tags yourself when you sign up, it would be really helpful if you could nominate them for the benefit of other fans of the same fandom.

I think my confusion was because I forgot that all tags are fandom-specific.

Am I correct in assuming that worldbuilding tags are going to be tied to fandoms so if I wanted to nominate, say, holidays, I would have to do it twice, for Star Wars and for ASOIAF?

You are indeed correct.

(I did initially consider doing the worldbuilding tags with non-fandom-specific Additional Tags, but decided this way allowed for much more fine-grained matching at the expense of slightly more faff in the nominating stage. The thing that tilted the decision in the end was seeing how detailed people got in the Coronation Ceremony tag set.)

If one matches on "No Characters", can the writer still choose to include some characters, or would any and all characters be unacceptable in that case?

The intention is for "No Characters" to match the effect in Yuletide of selecting zero characters in your request. That is, it's a way of signalling that you don't mind receiving zero characters, not that you *require* zero characters.

If a recipient did mean to say that they wanted something that was character-free, they would need to either select only the "Meta" category of fanwork to receive, and/or put "characters appearing" in their DNWs.

I'm trying to nominate some tags for the Castlevania game series. It's a connected series of games that takes place over centuries and involves the efforts of one clan of vampire hunters (the Belmonts) to kill Dracula.

I'd like to get worldbuilding around the Belmont clan and other vampire hunters in the world. I'm not sure if I should nominate this as a worldbuilding tag, or some sort of character tag. I'm trying not to specify any particular character, original or canonical, but since the tags are specifically about characters of a certain kind... I'm not sure how to handle it.

I think what you're suggesting sounds fine as Worldbuilding tags; there are quite a few tags in already for the history of in-universe organisations, which the Belmont clan would seem analogous to in my eyes from what you're saying. Up to you whether you want to nominate specific characters as well, but I could easily see a case for a combination of tags like (just to give an example) "Worldbuilding: origins of the Belmont clan" and a character tag for the first Belmont vampire hunter being something that people would be interested in offering/requesting.
