The assignment deadline has now passed. Thank you to everyone who has got their assignment in, or contacted me about extensions - unless I have told you something different individually, I am going to treat all extensions as running until 1400 UTC on Monday 18th (countdown) - as far as I can tell, this gives everyone the weekend, whatever time zone they're in. (And, to be honest, it fits in well with my schedule on Monday.)

At this stage, there are six pinch hits, two that have been advertised already and four new ones arising in the last 24 hours. Please comment on this post with your AO3 name if you can help with any of these; comments are screened. The deadline for all of these pinch hits will be 2155 UTC on Wednesday 20th March, though I am open to negotiation on this; please get in touch via email (worldbuildingmod@gmx.com) or dreamwidth DM if you want to discuss an alternative deadline for any of these.

Ecco the Dolphin (Video Games)
WB: Sky Tides and Aqua Tubes (Ecco the Dolphin), WB: The Machine Levels (Ecco the Dolphin), WB: Vortex Alien Society (Ecco the Dolphin), Any or No Characters (Ecco the Dolphin), Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta

As a note, I've only played the Genesis games, so I may be missing details from the later game. I am curious about the Vortex and how they would view events of the game; we see the Queen and how she changes to ensure the survival of her kind, and the drones that are sent out to fight. What other kinds of Vortex are there? Why are they out harvesting other worlds? Is the Vortex Queen unquestionably the center of everything or do other Vortex members have their own autonomy?

The levels in these games are all beautiful in their own way, but some of them raise a lot of questions. The Machine autoscroller levels might be reflective of the Vortex that made them, but what kind of machines are such mazes? Or when viewed in-universe, why would Ecco take that kind of path that gets him boxed into corners sometimes? On the other side of the timelines, the Aqua Tube/Sky Tide levels are mystifying and worldbuilding on how or why these tunnels of water got up in the sky would be really neat.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
WB: Excess Express (PMTTYD), WB: Great Boggly Tree (PMTTYD), WB: Rogueport History (PMTTYD), WB: Paper Modes (PMTTYD), WB: Stage Battles and the Audience (PMTTYD), Any or No Characters (PMTTYD), Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta

Quite a range of things here and I'd be happy to see worldbuilding on any of them! The three locations are places I adore, from the lavish Excess Express (even the ghost wants to stay there!) to the hauntingly beautiful Great Boggly Tree and the forest around it. Then you have Rogueport itself, with a rich history full of mystery. One doesn't even have to go a thousand years back to find potentially interesting history: why was the current port town founded and how did it attract enough rogues to earn that name? It's odd enough that the Excess Express would make regular stops at a place full of mobs and thieves. There's some interesting story to be had there.

The paper mode are called curses, but then the Pianatas can find enough people who know them to make regular competitions out of the skills. Are they uncommon abilities that most folks can only learn one or two of? And what's it like to fold or roll up your whole body? I had a vague idea for a nomination initially about 'life as a paper person', but decided to narrow it down to this, so tangents related to that are welcome too.

The stage and audience mechanics are really interesting to wonder about too. Do people buy tickets to follow their favorites on adventures, or maybe take a random one to see what kind of battle they get? How would a hero get a spontaneous stage and audience in far-flung places like the moon? The stages are risky for the participants and the audience at times; is that part of the thrill?

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey

The main tag request I'd like to explain more about is the time travel one. The Yggdrasil sidequest would be interesting to examine, but I'd particularly like to see more about the paradox of Alex's existence. Her companion even says that the future becomes uncertain right in your first meeting, likely before the protagonist has a strong leaning toward any side. For the other tags, they're topics I'm interested to read worldbuilding about but I don't have much more to say on them. Though the Sector Creation one could be from Jack's Squad or the demons; Fornax and Grus are implied to be newer sectors, while the reasoning behind the symbolism in other sectors could be fun to look into.

どうぶつの森 | Animal Crossing Series
WB: Happy Home Academy Home Inspections (Animal Crossing), WB: Public Work Projects (Animal Crossing), Any or No Characters (Animal Crossing), Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta

Like Lyle, I'm impressed at the HHA inspection crew. Up at six AM to invade your home like interior design ninjas, slipping in and out without disturbing a thing all in order to critique your style. How do they do this? Do they ever get caught by home owners? I bet they'd have some interesting design-horror or hilarity stories from their work.

For the Public Works Projects, the main burning question I have about them is 'Why does the trash can negatively impact my nature rating?' But if you have questions about other projects and interesting stories for answers, I'd be happy to read about those as well.

真女神転生IV FINAL | Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse
WB: Half Demons (SMTIVA), WB: Fairy Forest (SMTIVA), WB: Dagda's Resurrection Power (SMTIVA), Any or No Characters (SMTIVA), Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta

On half-demons, are there others in Tokyo? Do they have ways to find each other out, or are they doing their best to hide as one or the other? Does the Ashura-kai know about them and have others in their ranks to use their powers for their own ends? How about the Ring of Gaea?

Fairy Forest is a really curious place. How do they have a giant blossoming cherry tree underground? It wasn't there before. They also have a forest maze and Excalibur-or-something-like-that in a lake; does a place like that simply attract fairy-tale objects or do they build it that way?

'Dagda's Resurrection Power' is an umbrella idea for a lot of questions I have around the game, such as what Nanashi's state of maybe-alive maybe-dead is, how much Dagda controls him, what kind of autonomy do others resurrected by him have, does he have any limits on this power? It's a handwave reason in several situations, but I'd like to see more answers beyond the handwaving!

Likes:

Parallels (and contrasts) between characters and their journeys are a thing for me.

I like characters looking out for each other and rescuing each other, giving care and emotional support. Especially when women are the ones receiving care and support, getting their needs made a priority by their loved ones.

Canon divergence and role reversals are loved, though I also enjoy other AUs.

Here are some more things I enjoy: fusions, vignettes, character studies, plotty stuff, angst, fluff, smut, adventure, characters talking to each other, character focus in smut, enemies to lovers, friends/lovers to enemies to lovers/friends, pining, worldbuilding, quiet character moments, bittersweet endings, happy endings, open/ambiguous endings, quiet and subtle romance, the total opposite of quiet and subtle romance—these fandoms do have a high drama quotient, psychological horror, cunnilingus, messy and complicated dynamics, blurring between obligation/need and love, fear/horror/anger mixed with desire/love, politics, isolation, competitiveness, competitive smut, limited agency, legacy, manipulation, scheming, ulterior motives for sex, Force bonds, Force shenanigans, Force Ghosts, time travel, weird worlds/dimensions, time moves differently, scars, suspense, undercover, undercover as a couple, mission fic, teaching games, compromised sense of self, interpersonal tension, duty versus desire, love/hate, possessiveness, insecurity, secret relationships, secrets, the divine as sex, using the Force for sex, choking, breathplay, bloodplay, biting, scratching, Ahsoka’s fangs, growling, blindfolding, chains, trust issues, implicit trust, emotional intimacy, casual displays of affection, shared beds, snuggling, sitting/lying in laps, jumping people, stories where the woman/women are a significant part of the man/men’s characterization, stories where the woman/women are a significant part of each other’s characterization, characters gathering each other’s backstory a little at a time, investigating each other, spying, sex and violence paired together, fucking in the same room as your enemies’ corpse, body heat sharing, loneliness, connecting to the force together mutual pining, dreams, fix-it, parallel universes, parallel universe characters, us against the world, outside pov, story/fragments of story as told in-universe, ghosts, ghost sex, feeling each others sensations during sex, IF/interactive fiction, poetry

DNWs:

permanently dead female characters (where she’s not even a ghost), the concept of Anakin and Ahsoka as a father/daugher relationship, mpreg, detailed gore, detailed description of bodily fluids and excretions, watersports, scat, emetophilia, noncon (except if requested/prompted)—dubcon is fine, rape (except where specified below), a/b/o, rule 63’ing female characters, body horror, explicit torture, permanently damaging torture, maiming, mutilating, bashing of characters or ships, unrequited love (except if it's only unrequited in a characters' head), unrequested/unprompted ships (though mentions are okay), stories where nobody really cares about the woman/women in the ship, m/m outside of m/m/f ships, focus only on m/m interactions, a story where the f/f or m/f is secondary to the m/m, AUs which don't use canon settings, underage (17+ is fine, whether you change canon ages or set things when the characters would be 17+), ageplay/infantilization, humiliation (except if requested/prompted), bestiality, Jedi Order as evil/immoral (versus deeply flawed institution, which is is good), oviposition, monster sex, tentacle sex

Caveat: Referencing something in that list which happened in canon is all right. I’d just rather not it be a main feature in the story.
