Saiyuki
WB: Final tests for Sanzohood (Saiyuki), WB: Ancient Fantasy China (Saiyuki), WB: Magic powers (Saiyuki), Any or No Characters (Saiyuki), Genjo Sanzo (Saiyuki), Houmei (Saiyuki), Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta

In Koumyou's youth he was part of a class of eleven candidates for becoming Sanzo who were driven, hard-working and dedicated – and then there was him. His pupil Kouryuu straight out didn't want to be a sanzo at all and simply had it verbally thrust upon him.

What is it that makes a Sanzo-priest? Houmei had two years of intensive training to be worthy of the position, yet after holding the title for over twenty years he thinks there are no actual qualifications needed. In his final test for the disciples he considers worthy to follow him, Goudai says that every Sanzo steps over the body of his predecessor – there are three apparently perfectly healthy Sanzo-priests seen in Ibun. What has happened to them? Something dealing with the information we've been given would be fantastic!

DNWs:

graphic non-consensual sex;
characters as explicitly sexually active below the mid-teens;
explicit harm to children/child-like characters or animals (For Saiyuki, mentions of what other monks assume about Koumyou and Kouryuu is fine, but please have it be baseless. If Ukoku and the child!Kami-sama appear similarly please keep anything vague, even if not baseless);
Koumyou/Ukoku - I prefer them as friends or frenemies, as colleagues, with maybe Ukoku wanting something he'll never have, at most;
identity headcanons;
a/b/o;
modern day events such as Covid, modern day political events such as Brexit, etc;
terminal illnesses or cancer;
mundane-setting or modern day AUs or mundane/modern day settings for original works.

Any of the Schwarz characters in Rosenkreuz. What is Rosenkreuz? Possibly a story on Schwarz's training, the limitations the trainers consider that there are on psychic powersor their return there for some reason - to take it down, perhaps, as they canonically have very bad memories of the place.

DNWs:

graphic non-consensual sex;

explicit harm to children/child-like characters or animals ;
identity headcanons;
a/b/o;

I'd love something on 15th century takes on forensic science (or police equipment) - what exactly can Wang Zhi invent when he puts his mind to it? Or something about a day of hauling in petty criminals/bank robbers. And given how the show ends, maybe a zombie apocalypse and how the characters/the capital deal with it?

DNWs:

Pinch Hit #17 - Silmarillion, Middle-earth, Lord of the Rings, Frontier Wolf

Request 1 by bunn
The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien
WB: Maps and Mapmaking (Silmarillion), WB: Arda's Seas and Oceans (Silmarillion), WB: Vinyamar (Silmarillion), WB: Archaeology of Beleriand (Silmarillion), WB: Art and Architecture of the Havens of Sirion (Silmarillion), WB: Architecture and City Planning of Himring (Silmarillion), WB: Khazad-dûm in the Second Age (Silmarillion), Any or No Characters (Silmarillion), Fanart

This is my Silmarillion fanart / maps /doodle request. I definitely value enthusiasm and creative invention at least as much as technical skills for this sort of thing: skills are nice, but you don't have to be a draughtsman or a skilled artist to make something fun for this prompt.

I really love maps and plans, yes even scribbly rough ones, they give such a great idea of how things fit together and help visualise places in a quite different way to writing. I would really love it if you fancied making a map or plan of Himring, Vinyamar, Himring or even (maybe part of) Khazad-dum. Or a plan, or a drawing or a painting would be wonderful!

Maybe it would be cool to create the work from the point of view of a character, like a map of Beleriand from Finrod's journeyings, or maybe a sketch of Khazad-dum by Galadriel on a visit - or even by a young Celebrian? Maybe even, if you're thinking 'I can't draw this' - maybe Morgoth sent an orc to collect intelligence from the ruins of Vinyamar? I'd dearly love to see Turgon's great seaside-city rendered in the manner of Orc OC Who Is Just Doing His Best.

If you decide to do something like this, I DNW anything made by Sauron. It's only wise ;-)

If you went for the Archaeology of Beleriand prompt, it's up to you what period you go for - maybe you fancy sketching a potsherd or mystery tool, or an architectural detail washed up on the shores of Lindon, or retrieved and documented by skilled Teleri divers during the long peaceful years at the start of the Second Age? Or perhaps later by curious Numenoreans, inquisitive about their long-ago ancestry? Some great Numenorean lord setting out to dive the ruins of Hurin's house in Hithlum, and finding almost nothing, except for....???? A blade, a lamp, a gazunder studded with barnacles, a long-sea-worn helmet? Maybe with an unprovable theory attached to it.

Middle-earth - J. R. R. Tolkien
WB: Trade Routes of Arnor (Middle-earth - Tolkien), WB: Maps of Middle-earth and beyond (Middle-earth - Tolkien), WB: What Happened to the Blue Wizards (Middle-earth - Tolkien), WB: The Nameless Things that Gnaw the Earth and that Sauron Knows Not (Middle-earth – Tolkien), Any or No Characters (Middle-earth - Tolkien), Fanart

Yes, it's another art request! I've requested Maps again here, and also Trade Routes of Arnor, because I would be enormously pleased to see, say, Isengar Took's doodles from his Adventure at Sea, or maybe a sketch of some dramatic ruin by an outrider of Cardolan or Arthedain, killing time between missions. Or maybe even something by the Lady of the Blue Brooch herself?

But this is also a slightly more traditional request in that I would really like to see The Nameless Things Gnawing the Earth, or alternatively a drawing of Where The Blue Wizards Are (and, of course, what they are doing!) The Blue Wizards went into the east, but did they go like Radagast , peace out and adopt a flock of parrots? Did they bring enchantments - maybe something to do with the cultivation of silk? Or is the popular idea that they were never seen again a terrible calumny, and they were actually actively working to undermine the system of great sad slave-worked fields around Lake Núrnen mentioned in LOTR? Or were they just quietly running a noodle stall together and keeping out of trouble?

The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien
WB: The revival of Moria (LOTR-Tolkien), WB: The Chamber of Mazarbul (LOTR - Tolkien), WB: Manuscripts and manuscript transmission (LotR - Tolkien), Durin VII (LotR - Tolkien), Fanart, Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta

Durin VII led Durin's folk from Erebor back to Khazad-dûm and restored the ancient kingdom "sometime after Fo.A. 171". TELL ME MORE!!
Were there other records and objects found in the ruins, either from Balin's failed attempt to re-take Moria, or earlier? Did the dwarves of the Fourth Age even remember how to read the ancient tablets and records, if they survived?

What sort of person was Durin VII? How did he feel about the mighty ruins he inherited, both in the Mountain and in Moria? Were there still goblins or tentacled... thingummies lurking in the mines? Did the influence of Gimli's friendship with Legolas lead to the creation of more gardens in the great mountain-halls? Draw it, fic it, or give me letters (I love epistolatory fiction!)

DNW: the term 'dwarrowdam' it may be technically correct but it grinds my gears. DNW small-child characters, babies, pregnancy.

Frontier Wolf - Rosemary Sutcliff
WB: Votadini (Frontier Wolf), WB: Long Moss bog (Frontier Wolf), WB: Lady Stone (Frontier Wolf), Morvidd (Frontier Wolf), Teleri (Frontier Wolf), Druim (Frontier Wolf), Nuada (Frontier Wolf), Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta

I'm longing to know more about the Votadini. I'd really like to know more about Morvidd - surely there must be more to him than the rather stereotypical muttering druid? Does he have family? Where did he train as a druid?

I'm also fascinated by Druim, that odd character, poised between two worlds, and would love to know more about how he became a member of the Roman forces, or perhaps the different influences on his situation that led to him acting as a Roman spy, and ultimately betraying his masters.

I would definitely be on for some song written by Nuada the harper, if you happen to be so inclined - or perhaps to find out how Nuada travelled from the lands of the Attacotti, and where he was planning to go next, if his journey had not been interrupted.

One thing I love about Sutcliff is the way the landscapes have personalities of their own. So I have selected the Long Moss and the Lady Stone as two things I'd love to see explored. The Lady Stone almost seems to have a spirit of her own, and that might be fun to explore - how did the events of FW look to her, a strange stone-spirit of the land?

Pinch Hit #18 - Motherland: Fort Salem, Where the Sky is Silver and the Earth is Brass, Machineries of Empire

Motherland: Fort Salem (TV)
WB: Immigrant Witches (M:FS), WB: Enslaved Witches (M:FS), Original Character(s) (M:FS), Any Bellweather Ancestor(s) (M:FS), Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta

The alternate history that the show has created is so interesting and I’m craving expansion of that through fic! Tell me about the Bellweather ancestor who was a slave and ended up powerful and influential enough to begin a dynasty, and how she met and was recruited by Alder. Or other enslaved witches, witches in the American Revolution or the Civil War, or the founding of Fort Salem and standardization of American military magic with its various influences. How were these women able to teach each other and to win not only freedom but power? Were they able to get other enslaved women free via their own position in the military? Or Chinese or Jewish or Mexican immigrant witches who maybe came from different magic traditions and might have had to make the choice of whether or not to reveal that they had magic (if the system knows you because of your descent in the country?), serving their country but also binding their daughters and granddaughters forever. (I appreciate, for example, that there are a couple of Asian actresses in the cast and that some of them are even "High Atlantic" American royalty, but they all have English names - I want to know their families' stories in the same way that we have an idea of how influential Black witches were to the witch military! I also ended up not selecting the "European Jewry" WB tag specifically, but besides the immigration history, it did occur to me to wonder if the Holocaust happened in this universe - World War II didn't.)

Fandom-Specific DNW: I didn't enjoy the overt eugenics plotline this season and would prefer that nothing about breeding witches for stronger magic or particular traits (as opposed to any social reasons for arranged marriage and high society matching) be present in the fic.

General Likes: complicated loyalty kink, trust, gestures of loyalty, idealism (or a relationship between Person A who loves ideals and Person B who has no ideals and only loves Person A), hard-headed and down-to-earth female characters, noble and conflicted female characters, women doing “male” stuff, stories/history/performance, heists or complicated plans.

General DNW: rape/dubcon, torture, other creative gore; unrequested AUs, including “same setting, different rules” AUs such as soulmates/soulbonds; PWP; food sex; embarrassment; focus on pregnancy; Christmas/Christian themes; infidelity; unrequested polyamory; focus on unrequested canon or non-canon ships; unrequested trans versions of characters; breakups; jealousy; focus on grief; unequal levels of investment in a relationship (including concerns about same that turn out to be unwarranted), or the idea of a character accepting something they’re unhappy with as the most they’re going to get; characters who are written in a sexual context within the fic being ignorant about sex/anatomy (inexperienced is fine); the word "pussy"

Where the Sky is Silver and the Earth is Brass - Sonya Taaffe
WB: Demon Judaism (Sky/Silver/Earth/Brass), WB: The Mirror World (Sky/Silver/Earth/Brass), Demon (Sky/Silver/Earth/Brass), Original Character(s) (Sky/Silver/Earth/Brass), Fanfiction

"I lived where I was born, like all of us, between your dreams and your nightmares, in the land where the sky is silver and the earth is brass and all windows are mirrors, all mirrors are doors. It turned to broken glass, like yours did. Where you don’t stay, we can’t, either."

I'm so interested in the little hints that we get about the demon's world. It's on the other side of the mirror (or all mirrors, or all Jewish mirrors, anyway) - what does that mean, how does it work? How do they relate to the "real" world and the Jews in it - how does that world's shape relate to where Jews are in ours, that need to be where Jews are - and what exactly happened on their side when the Holocaust happened on ours?

And what is the demons' observance of Judaism like? They "have everything, only organized a little differently," but some things are the same - how does it work?

General Likes: complicated loyalty kink, trust, gestures of loyalty, idealism (or a relationship between Person A who loves ideals and Person B who has no ideals and only loves Person A), hard-headed and down-to-earth female characters, noble and conflicted female characters, women doing “male” stuff, stories/history/performance, heists or complicated plans.

Machineries of Empire Series - Yoon Ha Lee
WB: Kel high table or other rituals (Machineries), Original Character(s) (Machineries), Shuos Jedao (Machineries), Ajewen Cheris (Machineries), Any or No Characters (Machineries), Fanfiction

The Kel have all these codified and Kel-specific interpersonal interactions, like high table, and I want to know more about the humans in those - how they feel about doing the rituals, or about how other people (whom they're loyal to, who are loyal to them, who are their friends, who they dislike) do them. Or about what it feels like to be part of that when observed by someone that isn't, or to become part of that (eg. Jedao or an OC as a non-Kel seconded to the Kel). Or glove stuff, or superstitions...

Fandom-Specific DNW: I'd like to reiterate that although I'm aware that there's a lot of torture and dubcon in canon and I don't mind if you mention that they exist, I absolutely do not want any onscreen, or any details about torture even mentioned.
