worldbuildingmod: The Nebra Sky Disc (nebra)
[personal profile] worldbuildingmod posting in [community profile] worldbuildingex
The tag set is now open for nominations, and will close at 0755 UTC on Tuesday 12th Jan (amended from original schedule to allow for AO3 issues). Countdown to close of nominations here.

The official guidelines on nominating are here and a detailed guide to nominating for new participants can be found here.

Brief reminders:
  • Fandom names should make clear what the scope of the intended source material is*
  • Please disambiguate all character and worldbuilding tags
  • Worldbuilding tags go in the "Relationship" fields with "WB: " at the start - please do not nominate actual A/B, C&D, etc. relationships
  • All fandoms need to have "Original Character(s) (Name of Fandom)", "Any or No Characters (Name of Fandom)" and at least one worldbuilding tag
  • Starting with this round, other types of "Any" tags are allowed in the Character field to specify types of character, e.g. "Any Halfling(s)", "Any Space Marine(s)"
  • AUs (except those which appear within canon, like Star Trek's Mirror Universe) and RPF are outside the scope of the exchange

*A quick note on fandom names for Original Works: the tag set seems to be more manageable for participants when these are split up by subgenre, so please do use fandom tags like "Original Work - Pulp SF" rather than just "Original Work". I will default to approving whatever participants choose to use, even if they seem similar to existing ones in the tag set, rather than try to act as an arbiter of genre boundaries. If, once the tag set starts to take shape, you end up feeling that your nominations could be folded into another category that has been nominated by someone else, let me know and I will do so behind the scenes.

Please feel free to use the comments of this post for queries, to help me understand anything that you think is potentially complicated about your nominations, and for co-ordination between participants to avoid unnecessary duplication.

Hello friends!

I have used my five slots to nominate Carve the Mark, Frogkisser!, The Starless Sea, The House of Asterion, and the Genghis Khan music video by Miike Snow.

If anyone has spare slots, I'd love to see Chronicles of Narnia (any media or CS Lewis) and Bloom County (Breathed) nominated!

Happy Worldbuildex :D

What would you be interested in for Narnia books?

Good question! I'd love to see something like WB: Western Edge of the World or WB: Western Edge of the Sea -- I was fascinated by everything at the eastern edge (the sea of lilies, the water being concentrated light) and would love to see the equivalent at the other end of the world.

I have slots for world-building left in Narnia, so I'll drop WB: Western Edge of the World in for you!

Wheeee, I got all my hard-and-fast, for-sure noms nominated and one of them's already been approved! I'm excited to sign up this year - last year, the one day I had planned for signing up was the day my 2020 got an "early adopter" discount on sucking, so that never happened.

I just wanted to clarify a thing about my nominations - I know if you google All American it's going to say "inspired by a true story" but this is only true in the thinnest sense. There was a teen named Spencer who crossed neighbourhoods to play his sport, but literally everything and everyone else is made up. Similarly for my The Musketeers noms, obviously there was a real Anne of Austria but she's extremely fictionalised on the show. Neither canon comes at all close to being a biography.

A note on my Fake AH Crew & Related, etc, nomination -- Fake AH Crew is incorrectly synned to a RPF fandom (Rooster Teeth/Achievement Hunter RPF). While the characters share names and (usually) appearances with the real-life letsplayers, the characters are actually the GTA V personas of the letsplayers, who, as members of an organized crime group, are roleplayed versions of the real people. About half the fandom treats this canon as "RPF in the GTA universe," while the other half (myself included) treats this canon as "fictional characters influenced by the rl letsplayers."

I'm happy to explain further if needed!

IN "Goblin Emperor" the nation of Porcharn is not mentioned often. Mostly it's remarkable for the corruption of the local merchants and for being the nationality of the person who wrote the end notes "Guide to the Elflands"

Just FYI in case Porcharn is hard to look up.

My edition has "Porcharn" but "pencharn" is what I see in other editions (like Google Books) so ... maybe it should be Pencharn?
